Fauna

Okay, so it has been awhile since I’ve posted, and I think that is a poor move on my part.  So I’ll talk about a game I’ve been working on.

First off, I’d like to mention that I started this project a little less then a year ago, but stopped working on it because it’s really something to big an complicated to get done by one girl, and three of her siblings with no real training.  I only played around with the idea because my little brother wanted to do more then play Mind Craft, so I tried giving him a project to do.  This did not work out very well because in actuality it was my project and he had no emotional investment.

It started when I played a game called Pokemon Conquest.  I was really looking forward to this game, because I always wanted to try a turn-based strategy game with Pokemon.  When I played Pokemon Conquest, I was disappointed.

It had the turn-based strategy, and though it wasn’t the best turn-based game I’ve run across, I’m usually not to picky.  The problem was the rest of the game.  It had characters, were flat.  I’m used to playing Fire Emblem (a very character centric turn based strategy game), and so this bothered me.  It also had generic characters, and once again, because of fire emblem, this bothered me.  I also had some other problems with the game, but it’s been awhile since I played it and I never finished it so I don’t quite remember what those problems were.  The point is, I was disappointed.

I’ve always like Pokemon.  Not because of the actual game, but I liked having little critters I could catch and train.  So I decided that I would make my own ‘Pokemon’ and make it a turn-based strategy game which would have strong characters in it.  The kind of games with the strongest character reactions are visual novels (basically choose you’re own adventure books except more character centric and a video game).  So I added some visual novel elements to it.  This game would be completely awesome, if I ever finished it.  Which at first I never I thought I would.

That was until my older brother got involved.  He’s actually worked with making games and programming.  So when my little sister was working on this game around and he got interested… suddenly the game seemed a whole lot more possible.

I’m the writer of this game, but I’ve never successfully written something with branching so the task is a little daunting.  So I’ve been working on world, character, and creature design.  If this ever does get finished, it will take a long time.
